Long-time local businesses Rolladen Rolling Shutters and Wagner Homes have combined to create a unique partnership at the builder’s Fusion community in the northwest valley.
Wagner, who started his homebuilding business here more than 22 years ago, recently became the first builder to offer Rolladen Rolling Shutters as an upgrade at Fusion, his 15 th community.
To Fran Minnozzi, who founded the local franchise in 1984 after discovering Rolladen Rolling Shutters in Europe where she worked as a flight attendant, the agreement has been a long-time coming.
The Rolladen name has been touted in Southern Nevada for their multi-faceted benefits including energy conversation and protection against burglary, two key areas which have spiked in activity in Southern Nevada in past decade.
“This is a milestone,” said Minnozzi. “Our power bills have risen dramatically and burglaries have hit an epidemic level. We actually started Rolladen because crime was bad here more than 20 years ago. However, the surge in power rates has become equally important, especially in the past few years.”
Rolladen Rolling Shutters have been in Europe for more than 100 years. The product is so popular that the shutters are installed while a home or business is being framed. Industry officials say the rolling shutters lower power bills as much as 64 percent while also preventing against the bleaching of furniture, draperies and carpeting while keeping dust and pollen from entering a structure.
In addition, Rolladen has experienced another surge in business during the past year from homeowners who have had the product installed to block noise generated by traffic from busy roadways.
“I have known about Rolladen for as long as I can remember,” said Wagner, a 53-year-old, long-time resident of Southern Nevada. “I have always felt that the shutters should be included as an option in our homes because they offer so many benefits to to our buyers. I’m proud to be the first builder in the history of Southern Nevada to offer them.”
Wagner has long been a proponent of energy-efficient homes. He said the addition of Rolladen has been a natural.
“We are sold on Rolladen,” said Wagner, an energetic veteran of the business who now has five subdivisions in the northwest valley including Day Dawn Fusion at Fort Apache and Alexander roads, Day Dawn Crossing and Day Dawn Crossing II at Grand Teton and Durango drives and Day Dawn Vista at Deer Springs and Fort Apache roads. “The shutters add so much to a home in so many ways.
“When I was traveling in Europe in ‘04, the Rolladens were all over. I saw them in Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It was at that point that I decided I really wanted to have them on our homes in Las Vegas.”
The shutters can be operated manually or by remote control. They come in an an assortment of colors and also include a three-year warranty for parts and one year for labor.
“We have the remote control at Fusion,” explained Wagner. “It’s really amazing to see how easily the shutters work. I also like the fact that they can be left in a vented position to allow for air or light. When fully closed, they will also darken a room so that people can sleep longer, if necessary.”
Rolladen has two showrooms in Southern Nevada. The original location at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd. just west of Jones was actually Minnozzi’s old home.
The company opened a sparkling new 13,000 square-foot building earlier this year at 4405 Wagon Trail Ave., near Arville and Sunset roads. The location is also utilized to build the shutters, which are comprised of parts from Europe.
