Las Vegas couple has Rolladens for second time

Rolling Shutters
Karen Strutynski now has Rolladen Rolling Shutters on her second home.

You might say that Karen Strutynski is a true environmentalist.

She drives a hybrid vehicle to save fuel, and has a telescoping pool cover over the full length of her swimming pool to conserve water and heat the pool.
And for the second time in 14 years, she is now the owner of Rolladen Rolling shutters, which have been installed on 17 doors and windows of her 2,500 square-foot single-story home in the south valley.

When Strutynski and her husband, Allan, purchased the home two years ago, the dwelling had solar screens. The couple decided to replace the solar screens with Rolladen Rolling Shutters, which consist of foam-filled aluminum slats which not only prevent against burglaries but also lower power consumption as much as 64 percent, according to industry figures.

The Strutynskis had Rolladens previously on their 3,200 square-foot home in Boulder City, where they lived for 14 years. "I missed my shutters as soon as we moved into this home," Mrs.Strutynski said. "I didn't have my security anymore, nor did I have the ability to block the sunlight when I wanted. In addition, I found myself missing my protection at night."

An emergency responder with the Department of Homeland Security, she often sleeps during the day, so blocking the sunlight entering the home was a huge benefit provided by the rolling shutters.
Equally as important is the fact that the Strutynskis have noticed a big savings in their power bill since the shutters were installed.

"A year ago, my power bill was over $300," she explained. "This year during the same period, it was less than $200. These things will pay for themselves in a matter of a couple of years. "Also, when we were living in Boulder City, we never had a power bill over $100. When we were living there, we had view of Lake Mead and I didn't want to obscure the view with curtains, so we felt that the Rolladens provided security, safety, energy savings and a true ability to have an unobstructed view of the lake."

Mrs. Strutynski said maintenance is a breeze with her Rolladens. "All I do during my spring and fall cleaning is hose down the shutters and windows and dry the windows," she said. Mrs. Strutynski also praised the installers of her shutters saying they were very professional and cleaned up both inside and out. Popular for more than 100 years in Europe, Rolladen Rolling Shutters were first introduced in Southern Nevada more than 20 years ago by Fran Minnozzi.

The company is now offering no interest, no payments for six months for a limited period of time.
Rolladen now has two offices. The original is at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd, while its newest location is situated in the southwest valley near Arville and Sunset roads.
